Empowering Students Through Mentorship: MotorVero's Spark Program
Introduction to MotorVero's Spark Mentorship Program
At MotorVero, we believe in the power of mentorship to shape the future. Our Spark mentorship program is designed to inspire and guide seventh- and eighth-grade students from underserved communities, helping them explore career paths, develop new skills, and turn their dreams into reality. Over a ten-week period, students work closely with MotorVero mentors on projects that reflect their individual aspirations, gaining hands-on experience and invaluable insights into the professional world.

Why Mentorship Matters
Mentorship plays a critical role in helping young students navigate their career choices and build confidence in their abilities. According to a study by Mentoring.org, students who participate in mentorship programs are 55% more likely to enroll in college and 130% more likely to hold leadership positions. MotorVero's Spark program is a testament to the transformative power of mentorship, providing students with the tools and guidance they need to succeed.
Inspiring Student Projects
Throughout the program, students work on projects that align with their career goals, showcasing their creativity and determination. Here are a few highlights from our most recent semester:

Becoming a Surgeon
Student: Susan
Mentor: Kap
Susan has always dreamed of becoming an abdominal surgeon. With the guidance of her mentor, Kap, she delved into the world of surgery, researching different types of abdominal procedures, the tools required, and the patient recovery process. Susan also explored the academic requirements for top undergraduate and post-graduate programs, setting her sights on UCLA and Stanford as her dream schools.
Building a Mouse Trap Car
Students: Jesus and Ruben
Mentors: Brenton and Nguyen
Jesus and Ruben, with their mentors Brenton and Nguyen, built a functional car using everyday household items. By connecting a spring-loaded mousetrap and twine to the wheels, they created a simple yet effective engine. When activated, the trap releases energy gradually, propelling the car forward. This project not only taught them about engineering principles but also fostered teamwork and problem-solving skills.

The Impact of the Spark Program
The Spark program not only equips students with practical skills but also fosters a sense of empowerment and possibility. As Jeani Kearney, MotorVero's Engagement Program Manager, puts it, "One of these kids could be a future employee here at MotorVero, and then mentor the next generation of students. Wouldn't that be cool?" This cycle of mentorship and growth is at the heart of what makes the Spark program so impactful.
